Buskers in Coffs Harbour Receive Great News

Busker in Coffs HarbourYearly busking fees have dropped from $600 to $55 in Coffs Harbour. City council states that the reduction has been put in place to affirm the image of Coffs Harbour being a busker friendly city.

The reduction was approved at a council meeting on Thursday despite the 2011/2012 financial year expected to have a deficit of $182,220. Steve McGrath, the general manager of council, says that the budget is due to the tough economic climate that is being experienced in NSW by local area councils. Ongoing finance issues are having an impact on the ability of council to maintain existing services and works, without even thinking about starting new programs.

As Coffs Harbour develops and grows as a major regional city, it will face increasing demands on infrastructure and elevated expectations from community for expanded services and programs as well as new ones.

However keeping rates on hold for many years and shifting costs from federal and state responsibility to local government has meant that council revenue simply hasn’t kept up with needs. Despite financial restraints, Coffs Harbour City Council is still able to proceed with many important community programs and initiatives in the year ahead.

Due to careful analysis and management, council will still be able to do the Richardson Park drainage work that is worth an estimated $422,000. The redevelopment of 215 Harbour into a new museum Drive which is set to cost $425,000 is still set to proceed as well as major improvements at Coffs Harbour Regional Airport.

Getting a wider focus in regards to the engagement of the Coffs Harbour community is also another focus that is in line with the Coffs Harbour 2030 Community Strategic Plan. Participation in the NBN and World Rally Championships are also exciting things ahead for the Coffs Harbour region.
